Electrifying pedaling

Electric bikes meet the perfection of the bicycle as a simple and effective vehicle and the additional support of the engine that makes the effort more bearable. Certainly this are not a snob or an eccentricity, as there is the evidenced by the fact that, especially in Central Europe, are now a personal transport solution in saturated cities : a cheap vehicle, very low maintenance, environmentally friendly and, thanks to the engine, ideal for people whose athletic ability to never have dared to cycle. On the other hand, there are the sports version (MTB), especially designed for those who want to do the same sport and effort than with a standard bike, but want to go further, climb ramps that had not ever imagined or discover new tracks and much more longer routes.

There is an European law that sets conditions for an electric bike to be considered a bike : the engine should not exceed a limit of 250W power, pedaling assistance occurs until it reaches a speed of 25Km/h (from there the engine automatically disconnects) and the system only works while giving the pedals, so do not have any type of accelerator. There are motorized bicycles that do not meet these conditions and reach speeds of 45Km/h, but in this case should be registered and have insurance as a moped. In practice, an electric bike is, more correctly, a bicycle pedal assist and feel for the user as if something or someone pushed him while driving. So the effort is much more bearable, you can move on the bike without sweating and no insurmountable ramps. So much for urban use and practical. But as stated above, also have a sporting side which makes them very suitable machines to lose weight and get in shape. Being softer effort, you can extend it from day one and as the heart works lighter, recovery is faster. This means that an untrained person will suffer much less in an electric bike, you can go further and feeling less tired than on a traditional bicycle.

How to choose your bike? What are the requirements? What features should it have? For example, regarding the battery autonomy of each bike, this depends on the performance that the person has of pedaling, their training, their understanding of how it works … even the same bike go much further depending of each rider. The key is to choose the electric bike depending on the use to which it will give, the same as if it were a normal bike.

The electric bicycle user ends up being very true to this vehicle and rarely go back, it is the ideal solution for their daily mobility due that has a lower cost than the public transport, use very flexible and, above all, a sense very relaxing and healthy. People often say they are happier thanks to the electric bike. In addition, there are those who take advantage of their surroundings, as serious cyclists after a certain age suffer more than necessary to keep pace with the biker club they are part of. For them and for those who, for example, often cycling with their teens, electric bicycle, in which anyway you need to pedal, just being the best, but sometimes the only solution.

Tips to increase autonomy:

  • The best batteries are lithium as many refills resist

  • No brands use to choose recharging systems because the effectiveness is minimal and introduce friction to the engine
  • To start and brake continuously use more battery
  • Properly inflated tires
  • Optimal setting of the brakes
  • Optimal setting of the shifter and chain
  • Perform a full discharge once a month
  • Choose the level of assistance and shifter in function the rider is able to ride
